About Healing Rhythms For Veterans

St. John's, Newfoundland-Labrador, Canada

We are an Registered Not-for-profit (Canada) organization powered by the tireless efforts of our many volunteers hailing from all walks of life. As noone in our program receives any compensation for their roles, this is a testament to how dedicated they all are to bring the healing power of music to our heroes in uniform and thier families.
Our journey began in July of 2018 with our first official session later on the 13th of September 2018. We began under the name Music Healing Veterans Canada: Newfoundland-Labrador Chapter. Music Healing Veterans Canada is an Ontario based program, with our chapter being the only one outside of the Ontario area. Since then we have been developing and adjusting our music program to suit the needs of our Newfoundland Veterans and First Responders.
On the 18th of September 2019 our program underwent a name change and are now known as Healing Rhythms For Veterans. We have made some changes to our programs infrastructure and operation but our focus remains the same as before and will remain within Newfoundland-Labrador.
We strive to achieve a high level of sustainability which will allow us to provide our heroes in uniform and their families with a high quality experience within our program that gives them more tools to help them cope with the daily ravages that come with mental wellness issues.

Our Mission

Our mission is to provide group support and peer-mentoring through music instruction for Military Veterans (Regular and Reserve; All branches), First Responders (Fire, Police, EMT/Medical) and their families living with mental wellness issues.

Our Vision Forward

As we continue to gain and maintain forward momentum through our progressive success, our program will turn to expansion of our main instrument focus into other popular instruments (i.e. fiddle, tin whistle, etc.). We will continue to grow our staff as our student base increases and the demand for more instructors becomes present. We will make every attempt to keep class sizes as low as possible.
When we have perfected a working model of a program such as ours, with the consideration of future budgets, we would like to slowly expand within Newfoundland-Labrador to other cities and regions that would benefit from a program such as this in their area. Though we are not ready to expand beyond St. John's just yet, if you are interested in starting your own chapter of Healing Rhythms For Veterans feel free to contact our Program Director, Mike Hanlon, for further information. He can be reached at the phone number or email address found at the bottom of this page.
